Known as the “Silver Fox” for his ability to save his equipment and drive to the front at the end of the race, David Pearson towers over his competition with an incredible 105 career wins, second only to Richard Petty. His smooth driving style and easy going personality masked the intense desire to win. He captured three NASCAR championships driving for some of the sports premier teams including Holman Moody and the Wood Brothers. With his ever present black loafers, this photo shows Pearson leaning confidently against his car during the 1968 season, seemingly sending a message to his competitors; “I’m the one to beat.”
